Jamiat Ulema-E-Hind Launches Jamiat Open School To Provide Secondary Level Education To Madrasa Students
In an attempt to impart secondary-level education to Madrasa students, Jamiat Ulema-E-Hind has established ‘Jamiat Open School’ on the lines of the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), with a target to reach out to as many as 50 thousand students at the first stage.
An introductory and training program was held at the headquarters of the Jamiat, in which about 100 heads of Madrasas representing UP districts & Delhi attended the event along with several educationists. A one-month training session will be held in Pune.
Speaking at the inaugural session, Jamiat general secretary Maulana Mahmood Madani said: “Every year thousands of young Muslims graduate from various Dar-ul Ulooms, they have a good grounding in these fields. However, they are somewhat handicapped in playing their vital role in their community due to ignorance in terms of contemporary secular education or mainstream educational streams.”
“Jamiat has opened a Jamiat National Open School with our mission to recreate trained and support Madrasa students enabling them to pursue mainstream education to become effective leaders to deal with diverse challenges faced by Muslim communities,” said Maulana Madani.
Dr Shoaib Raza Khan, Assistant Director of NIOS who was present at the event called the program a “path-breaking initiative” and assured that NIOS is ready to extend all possible cooperation to the Jamiat.
Niyaz Farooqui, spokesperson of the Jamiat, said that the program is targeted to reach out to 50,000 students at the first stage.
“So far, 100 Madrassas have been selected of which 2000 students will benefit from modern education. Under this, a 20-day training camp for the coordinators and teachers of these Madrassas is going to start in Azam Campus, Pune from tomorrow,” added Farooqui.
